The Los Angeles Clippers’ superstar James Harden faces major legal complications this offseason. Recently, a report emerged that said Harden’s Restaurant, “Thirteen,” officially shut down due to a $2.2 million lawsuit. The news sparked controversy online.
After coming from a memorable China tour, this is something Harden did not expect to be coming. In 2024, the restaurant got a new design and menu under Chef Siddhartha Caden, but it only stayed open for another 18 months before falling behind on payments. The situation adds more fuel when it includes Harden’s mother.
According to reports, Monja Willis, Harden’s mother, has a strong connection to the lawsuit. She is accused of promising to pay extra rent during lease talks, but never followed through. However, the landlord says that the money was never paid and that Willis never really meant to pay it.
Thirteen first opened in 2021 after Harden left the Houston Rockets for the Brooklyn Nets. With the doors locked and the lawsuit ongoing, the restaurant’s future looks uncertain.
James Harden Gets Appreciation From Former Teammate
Patrick Beverley, a former Harden teammate, believes Harden might be a better offensive player than Michael Jordan. While Beverley picked Jordon as the best overall, he said Harden is slightly better on offense. Harden led the NBA in scoring three times and is also a great passer. He can shoot from long range better than Jordon. He also led the league in assists twice.
“Offensively, James Harden is damn sure close,” Beverley said. “Might be slightly better. Slightly—offensively. You ever see Michael Jordan lose his cool when he does something right? You see James Harden lose his cool when he does something right?”
However, Jordon was a strong defender and won Defensive Player of the Year in 1988. That’s why most people still see Jordon as the better all-around player. But Beverley Harden makes more significance that he is not shy to admit.
