The Brooklyn Nets have been active this offseason as they are looking forward to a 2025-26 NBA season that will hopefully show that the rebuild is moving in the right direction. Brooklyn has made various trades this summer to get draft picks and/or young players, but the franchise is also making moves to solidify the roster possibly before training camp begins.

The Nets announced on Tuesday that they have requested waivers on center David Muoka, the player that Brooklyn signed on Monday without releasing any details on the deal. This seems to be a common practice among NBA teams when it comes to bringing players into the organization with the intention of having those players either compete in training camp or go directly to the team’s G League afiliate.

Muoka, 24, previously spent time with Brooklyn in the 2024 Las Vegas Summer League as he was looking to find his place in the league after he went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft. Muoka played just one game for the Nets in the 2024 summer league, a contest in which played just eight minutes and put up two points, three rebounds, and one block.

In other news, the Nets weren’t done announcing recent moves as they also officially confirmed on Tuesday that they had traded for Atlanta Hawks guard Kobe Bufkin in exchange for cash considerations. According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the cash that Brooklyn sent to Atlanta was worth $110,000 with Spotrac’s Keith Smith noting that the Hawks will create a $4.5 million traded player exception (TPE).

Bufkin, 21, was the 15th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft after a sophomore season at the University of Michigan that saw him perform into a first-round level NBA talent. Due to a combination of injuries and being the backup to star Trae Young, Bufkin has only played in 27 games during his first two seasons in the league for a Hawks team that hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2022-23 campaign.

In the 2024-25 season, Bufkin averaged 5.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 38.3% from the field and 21.1% from three-point land in 10 games played. Bufkin’s second season in the league was cut short on Dec. 19 when the Hawks announced that he would undergo surgery to address a right shoulder instability and will miss the rest of the season.

Hawks will create a $4.5M TPE by trading Kobe Bufkin to the Nets without any salary coming back.

Atlanta will be $7.7M under the luxury tax and $15.8M under their first-apron hard cap.

Nets will have roughly $11.6M left in cap space, with the ability to create up to $19.9M in…
