The 2024-25 NBA season was another disappointing one for the Sacramento Kings as they failed to make the playoffs once again.
Of course, the Kings were expected to be a playoff team despite the loaded Western Conference thanks to their addition of DeMar DeRozan in the offseason to pair alongside their star duo of De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.

It was a horrible start to the season for the Kings that resulted in them replacing head coach Mike Brown with Doug Christie in December and they then sent Fox to the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline.

Sacramento was able to finish the season ninth in the West but they were unable to make it out of the Play-In Tournament as they lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the first round.
With their season coming to a disappointing ending, Sacramento has some major decisions to make in the offseason and they have already made some by hiring Christie as their new head coach along with hiring a new general manager.

Now their focus is on their roster and it all began on Monday night in the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery.
Sacramento entered the night with the 13th-best odds of landing the first overall pick and their pick would also convey to the Atlanta Hawks if they were unable to jump up in the draft.
Unfortunately for the Kings, they were unable to jump up as they landed the 13th overall pick in the 2025 draft, giving up their pick to the Hawks.
Of course, the Kings sent their protected 2025 first-round pick to the Hawks in the trade that landed them Kevin Huerter in 2022, a trade that did not work out well for Sacramento.

Because of this, the Kings will not have a first-round pick in next month’s draft but they do hold the Spurs’ second-round pick due to the Fox trade earlier this year.
This was a disappointing result for the Kings as they will now have some key decisions to make whether they want to rebuild their roster or keep their core together.
