After a tough 2024-25 campaign, the Philadelphia 76ers will undoubtedly be hopeful of a bounce-back season. As currently constructed, the Sixers have all the talent needed to be a contender in the Eastern Conference, especially if Joel Embiid and Paul George can stay healthy. However, concerns around the star duo’s durability continue to swirl, especially as neither is expected to feature for the Sixers to begin the season.
For that reason, former NBA guard Jeff Teague isn’t sold on the Sixers’ ability to compete at the top of the East, even with the Indiana Pacers and Boston Celtics taking injury-forced gap years. Teague, speaking via his “The 520 Club” podcast, claimed the Nurse’s team could struggle to make the postseason, labelling them a play-in team.
“Play-in man,” Teague said. “PG is cooked bro…It’s a great chance he going to be hurt this year. My point, play-in. They going to be at full strength the first game of the season, then game two, they going to be out.”
It’s far too early to be writing the Sixers, or any other team, off. The season hasn’t even begun, and there is plenty of time for Embiid and George to get back on the court and prove they’re ready to withstand the rigors of the season. However, if either of them struggles to stay in the rotation due to injuries, the Sixers will undoubtedly have a hard time reaching their overall goals.
For now, though, all Sixers fans can do is wait and see how things shake out. Until the roster is at full strength and everyone is locked in at near their best, it’s hard to gauge how well the season will go.
