After injuries derailed their 2024-25 season, the Philadelphia 76ers enter the upcoming campaign aiming to compete for a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.

The Sixers dealt with several injuries to key players, with the likes of Joel Embiid, Paul George, Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain missing significant time. The oft-lengthy injury report resulted in the Sixers finishing 24-58 and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

The roster returns mostly unchanged, with the team adding only Trendon Watford in free agency. The front office re-signed Justin Edwards, Eric Gordon and Kyle Lowry, though it is still in a contract stalemate with restricted free agent Quentin Grimes.

Philadelphia drafted two players who are projected to play key roles this season: VJ Edgecombe (No. 3 pick) and Johni Broome (No. 35 pick). Edgecombe currently has the third-highest odds to win the Rookie of the Year award (plus-1100).

The team will begin training camp with an uncertain status for Joel Embiid and Paul George, who both underwent offseason knee procedures. However, they were spotted this week taking part in various on-court workouts at the team practice facility.

With the team officially convening on Sept. 27, Rookie Wire examined the Sixers’ depth chart and offered an early projection of the starters and backups entering the season.
