What to make of Pat Connaughton’s departure from the Milwaukee Bucks

Bucks reporter Jim Owczarski discusses the departure of longtime Milwaukee Bucks staple Pat Connaughton

In one month, Giannis Antetokounmpo will be back wearing a Milwaukee Bucks uniform for his 13th NBA season.

And he’ll be returning after experiencing “probably the greatest accomplishment” of his life when he led Team Greece to a podium finish at the 2025 FIBA Eurobasket tournament.

Antetokounmpo, 30, did it with a dominant performance alongside two of his brothers, Thanasis and Kostas, earlier this month, and with his children and wife watching in the stands in Riga, Latvia.

The two-time NBA MVP noted throughout the 24-country summer tournament how much representing his country meant to him. He reflected on the experience once again penning a short message and a series of photos on Instagram Sept. 20.

“What a beautiful ride🔥💯,” wrote Antetokounmpo, who also represented Team Greece at the 2024 Olympics and was the flag bearer.

Antetokounmpo included photos with his arm around younger brother Kostas while holding his daughter and embracing his two brothers in another.

The post quickly went viral with more than 200,000 likes.

Last week, Antetokounmpo’s wife, Mariah, celebrated her husband’s accomplishments in the tournament.

“Everything earned, nothing given! You deserve all of this greatness and more!” Mariah wrote on Instagram.

Antetokounmpo’s performance in the tournament earned him a spot on the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 All-Star Five Team.

In seven games, he averaged a double-double with 27.3 points and 10.6 rebounds, plus 4.1 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.9 blocks in the tournament. Antetokounmpo shot 68.5% from the field.

In the third-place game against Finland on Sept. 14, Antetokounmpo scored 30 points on 9 of 11 shooting (81.8%), had a tournament-high 17 rebounds, along with six assists and two blocks.
