Jayson Tatum appears to be ahead of schedule in his rehab from an Achilles tendon tear. The Boston Celtics superstar has been posting videos of himself in the gym and attending events without the need for a protective boot. Furthermore, outside of a vacation and some visits to other cities, Tatum has primarily resided in Boston this summer, attacking his rehab head-on in a bid to make a full recovery.

98.5 The Sports Hub’sZolak and Bertrand recently gave Celtics fans an additional reason for optimism, as they shared how the Celtics have been “very happy” with the effort level Tatum has shown this summer.

“The Celtics are very happy with how hard Jayson Tatum has been working at his rehab, and his level of focus and intensity in the rehab process,” Bertrand said. “(Tatum) did not leave town. He has been here the entire time. … Since the injury, he has not left town, and he has been inside the building at the Celtics’ facility with their people and their team almost every single day for months.”

Tatum’s commitment to his recovery has certainly been a welcome subplot to a summer that has seen the Celtics lose multiple members of the 2024 championship rotation. Furthermore, his approach could be viewed as a brand of leadership, with his efforts and commitment being the example he wants the rest of his teammates to follow.

That version of leadership was recently discussed on the “Celtics Beat” podcast, where Keith Smith joined hosts Evan Valenti and Adam Kaufman to discuss the offseason, Boston’s cap situation and Tatum’s rehabilitation. The hosts touched on Tatum’s work ethic this summer and how that could have a positive impact on the rest of Boston’s roster, most notably, the growing core of young and inexperienced talent.
