A nun who is often seen cheering from the sidelines in college basketball is retiring.

Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt is the chaplain for the men’s basketball team at Loyola University Chicago. And she’s earned her retirement- she just turned 106 this year.

You can’t lose when you have Sister Jean cheering you on, so the team will surely miss her.

As chaplain, she leads the team in prayer before every home game.

And a few years ago- in 2018- Sister Jean became a sensation- one of college basketball’s most recognizable fans- as she cheered on the Rambler’s surprising run during the men’s final four that year.

Sportcasters say she became a symbol of the Rambler’s underdog story and fans were rooting for Sister Jean and the Ramblers because of her passion for the team.

She wrote a memoir called “Wake up with Purpose! What I’ve learned in my first 100 years” that shares some of her words of wisdom.
