The Al Horford era is officially over for the Boston Celtics, per recent reporting from the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach. Per the Globe reporter, “Horford has agreed to a deal with the (Golden State) Warriors. The source says that Jayson Tatum’s injury and other departures factored into Horford’s final decision, but that it was still quite hard for him to leave Boston, which he considers a second home.”

The news may not be much in the way of a revelation, given nearly every trustworthy outlet has intimated that the University of Florida alum had been planning to sign with the Dubs almost from the start of the 2025 NBA offseason for the Celtics. That offseason began for Boston in May after they were beaten by the New York Knicks in the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals after Tatum went down with a torn Achilles tendon, blunting the impact of a player who can legitimately be called the greatest free agency signing in the modern history of the team.

That started back in 2016, when Horford shocked the league by decamping from the Atlanta Hawks to the Celtics as star forward Jaylen Brown was joining the team as a rookie and Isaiah Thomas was winning over hearts and minds in the fourth quarter.

On behalf of Celtics fans everywhere, we want to say how much we appreciate Horford (and his family!) in our orbit.
