Luka Doncic sent NBA fans into a frenzy with his offseason exploits.

The Los Angeles Lakers star, who has taken plenty of heat for his conditioning and physique over the years, underwent an impressive transformation.

Over the summer, Doncic spent some serious time in the weight room, and shared footage of an insane 720lb lift in June.

He then competed for Slovenia at EuroBasket 2025, where he powered his country to the quarterfinals, before a loss to the eventual champions Germany.

The ‘lean as heck’ Laker even posed for Men’s Health magazine in July, where he ran through the workouts and diet that helped him transform his body, and was dubbed ‘Luka Doncic 2.0’.

It would have been fair, then, for fans to assume that the five-time All-Star would return to LA at less than the 230lb weight he was listed at last season.

That, though, is not the case.

According to the Lakers’ official training camp roster sheet, Doncic now weighs 244lbs, 14lbs more than this time last season, when he was with the Dallas Mavericks.

Fans confused as Doncic returns to Lakers ‘heavier’ than last year

The revelation left fans mystified, with many questioning if there was a mistake on the sheet.

Others, meanwhile, suggested that he has put on plenty of muscle after shedding weight.

“Luka put on 14 pounds from last season I’m crying,” one person wrote on X, comparing LA’s roster sheet with the one shared by the Mavericks in 2024.

“Streets was tellin’ me he was getting skinny tho,” another responded.

“Luka is 244? I thought he was 230… Uh oh,” a third said, while a fourth argued: “He definitely lost weight and gained muscle.”

“Muscle weighs more than fat. He lost a s*** ton of body fat but also gained muscle. He still lost 20+ on fat loss alone,” a fifth fan suggested.

Did Doncic lose weight during offseason transformation?

While the Lakers’ training camp measurements left many fans confused, there could be a simple explanation.

A number of X users pointed out that Doncic’s weight has been listed at 230lbs by the Mavericks since 2019-2020, and the team likely failed to update their internal numbers over the years.

Fans speculated that he weighed in the range of 260-270lbs last season, and has indeed shed at least 25lbs ahead of his return.

Doncic’s new physique also caught the eye of Lakers teammate LeBron James, who was full of praise for Luka’s effort.

“Ah, s***, I need to get on his routine now,” the NBA legend said.

“I haven’t had an opportunity to talk to him, but I probably won’t even bring it up. Listen, the proof is in the pudding. I mean I could look right at it, I think everybody looks at it from a basketball aspect.

“But I just I hope he’s just happy about how he feels. That’s the most important (thing).

“Every day he wakes up, I think he’s in a great place. He had a great summer at EuroBasket, with Slovenia, and hopefully we carry it into the season.”
