Unfortunately for Indiana Fever star Kelsey Mitchell, her 2025 season ended with her leaving the court early against the Las Vegas Aces in Game 5 of the WNBA semifinals.

Mitchell, a three-time All-Star, suffered what appeared to be leg cramps during the third quarter of a must-win Game 5. Fever head coach Stephanie White revealed in her postgame press conference that Mitchell was transported to a hospital to receive fluids.

What’s the diagnosis for Mitchell?

On Wednesday afternoon, Mitchell revealed that she was dealing with rhabdomyolysis. The veteran guard detailed this horrifying experience in a lengthy social media post.

“I suffered from something called Rhabdomyolysis last night. My muscles stopped producing and reached its maximum capacity,” Mitchell said. “I went into a sense of numbness/paralyzing feeling with no movement from my lower extremities for up to 5 to 7 seconds. Because my muscles stopped producing positive blood to my bloodstream, my body locked up from a physical standpoint and from there fatigue and cramping settled in. It sucked. I panicked because I began ton think the worst when I felt like I couldn’t move my legs. It was an out of body experience for me and I thank God for covering me at a time like that.”

Thankfully, Mitchell is walking again and expected to make a full recovery.

“I want to thank the Fever medical team, Vegas medical team, and the staff at the local hospital for keeping me safe,” Mitchell added.

Mitchell finished the postseason averaging 23.3 points per game. She was also the Fever’s leading scorer during the regular this season, averaging 20.2 points per contest.

WNBA fans should expect to see Mitchell lighting up the boxscore yet again next season.
