RAYMOND, WI — Raymond School had special guests on Thursday, and many students were amazed to learn their gym teacher, Kelly O’Hara, has a life outside school as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks Rim Rockers.

O’Hara, physical education teacher at Raymond School, is in her fifth year on the job—and for the past three years, she’s also been involved with the Milwaukee Bucks’ acrobatic performance team, the Rim Rockers.

On a recent visit to Raymond School, O’Hara and a few members of the Rim Rockers spent about 20 minutes with students, demonstrating high-flying moves and encouraging them to believe “they can do anything, even when they’re older.”

“They can use their athletic abilities or different talents in different ways throughout their life,” O’Hara told Racine County Eye before the performance.

She said her motivation for bringing the group to the school was simple: to inspire kids. For O’Hara, one of the most rewarding parts of her job is witnessing turning points.

“When (my students) get something and you see a click in their head … the joy in their faces makes my day,” she said.

In her PE classes, O’Hara evaluates students through a combination of observation, peer feedback, and structured stations that turn into games to showcase progress. She likes to make lessons interactive and let students learn from each other.

A Peek Inside the Rim Rockers’ World

The Rim Rockers are the Bucks’ acrobatic team, known for high-flying trampoline dunks, flips, and spins. They perform at home games, community events, and school assemblies with a combination of athleticism and choreography to wow audiences.

O’Hara, who auditions every year to participate with the group, said she auditioned on a whim after a lifetime spent in gymnastics and dance.

“My friend saw an ad on Instagram … we just decided to try out,” she added.

Tryouts are competitive, and performers must reaudition each year to remain on the roster.

When asked about the age range of team members, O’Hara said there’s quite a spread: the youngest this year is about 20, and the oldest around 37.

In addition to O’Hara – who goes by the moniker Pop Tart when she’s performing – Benedetto, Swaggy T, Chuck, and Blaha were also on hand to amaze Raymond students.

Why It Matters to Students

O’Hara said that even students who don’t aspire to be acrobats can take away lessons in perseverance, creativity, and pushing their limits.

“I’m hoping the kids get out of this that they can do anything,” she said.

After the performance, two girls were overheard talking about the Rim Rockers and O’Hara’s role on the squad.

“I never would have guessed this about her,” one girl said.

“She’s amazing,” the other girl added. “I’m going to treat her like a queen!”
