The New York Knicks already look different than they did during the 2024-25 NBA season.
After parting ways with Tom Thibodeau, the New York Knicks appointed Mike Brown as the team’s next head coach.
Brown is off to a stellar start as the Knicks registered a solid 99-84 win over the Philadelphia 76ers during their preseason opener.
While Josh Hart picked up an injury, it was an overall terrific result. However, NBA insider Brian Windhorst focused on an entirely different quality of coach Brown.

For what it’s worth, Thibodeau helped the Knicks become a solid team in the Eastern Conference during his five-year tenure.
However, Thibs’ coaching tactics were a bit orthodox. For instance, Windy pointed out how coach Brown is already showing practice videos to the media, something that Thibodeau rarely did.
“Mike Brown has allowed the media to watch more of practice in the last three days than Tom Thibodeau did in five years,” Windhorst said on the Hoops Collective podcast.
He added: “And so we have gotten an opportunity to see the Knicks offense in action a little bit.”
Brown not only showed the Knicks’ training session, but he also received immense praise from fans due to how well the team looked on the offensive end of the court.
Brian Windhorst compares New York Knicks to the 2010 San Antonio Spurs
For years, the San Antonio Spurs were the most consistent team in the Western Conference. Former head coach Gregg Popovich received credit for the team’s success in the NBA.
Keeping that in mind, Windhorst sees similarities between the current Knicks and the Spurs’ offensive abilities during the 2010s.
“What the Knicks are doing in practicing looks very very different to the way they have played the last few years,” Windhorst continued.
“I’m really watching a Spurs 2010 style offense from the Knicks,” he concluded.
In fact, Knicks stars are already noting a difference between Thibodeau and Brown’s coaching styles. But can the franchise lift the Larry O’Brien trophy next summer? Only time will tell.
