Stephen Curry has been a standout player since the 2009-10 NBA season. Despite the early wobbles in his career, he has become one of the most iconic players of his generation, complete with four championships. As he ages, retirement is getting closer.
The Golden State Warriors have become one of the most iconic modern NBA franchises. Stephen Curry is the primary reason behind that success, with his amazing three-point shooting and leadership. With four championships during his career, Curry has earned all-time great status in the Bay Area and is iconic around the league.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and Curry is getting closer to retirement with each passing day. The Warriors know their window is closing soon, which is why they want to maximize the timeline for their older players.
Curry knows retirement is on the cards soon, so he wants to keep fighting for another championship. As he ages, he is struggling with some potential injuries that could keep popping up, like his recurring thumb ailment.

While there is no set timetable for Curry’s career, he knows a time will come when he will need to step away. Someone like LeBron James has shown that players can thrive past their 40s, but Curry might not be the same as James, who is one of the most physically gifted athletes in history.
Curry is 37, and he will turn 38 in March 2026. He is in his late 30s, which is tough in the NBA. The statistics dipped from previous seasons, but Curry still plays like a top-tier point guard. He is still on a similar level as modern superstars like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Doncic.
Now that he is in his late 30s, Curry himself knows what is in store for him. During an interview, he pointed out that he has thoughts about retirement from time to time.
“No clue. I just know it’s closer than it was even yesterday. It’s just a matter of acknowledging that it’s fun because the more I talk about it, the more you appreciate what goes into preparing yourself,” Curry said on ESPN.
“Acknowledging that it does take a little longer to get warmed up before a practice or before a game. Recovery can take a little longer. But all that stuff is the privilege you’ve earned because of all the work I’ve put into it. I’m trying not to put any timestamps or anything. No sense of urgency on it now.”

The Warriors could be a surprise team in the 2025-26 season
Ahead of the 2025-26 season, the Western Conference has two standout teams, which are the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Denver Nuggets. They have cemented themselves as favorites because of their rosters and their landmark players.
Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic have been the top two in the MVP race for the past two seasons. They could make some noise in the West again as the biggest contenders.
Despite all the hype behind those two teams, opportunities are present for the other teams. One of them is the Golden State Warriors, a team with championship experience and players who are motivated to win one final championship.
“I’m excited to be on the floor with him (Steph). Not have to chase him around and try to contest him. The fact that we’re on the same side is something that’s special for me.”

Unfortunately, their advanced age might be an issue. Curry will be the star player who will want to keep leading this team. At the same time, they have Green and Al Horford, who are both mature players who can make a difference on the defensive end.
Jimmy Butler might not be a champion yet, but he might be hungrier than any other player on the Warriors.
With all these positive qualities and a head coach like Steve Kerr, the potential is bright for a dark-horse run. It will be challenging, but they will get to wherever Curry can take them in his 17th season in the league.
