PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The downtown arena that’s home to the Phoenix Suns and Mercury has a new name as part of a “landmark naming rights partnership.”
The Suns, Mercury and United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM) announced on Thursday a 10-year, $115 million naming rights partnership to rename the arena after UWM’s consumer-facing brand, Mortgage Matchup. The venue will now be known as Mortgage Matchup Center.
Suns owner Mat Ishbia is also the president and CEO of UWM.
“I’m extremely excited about this partnership as it represents two organizations that have natural alignment and a shared commitment to excellence. Arizona is one of the strongest markets for mortgage brokers and we see a fantastic opportunity through Mortgage Matchup to help consumers better understand the value of having an expert advising them through this process to ensure they get the fastest, easiest and cheapest path to homeownership or a refinance — and greater education will ensure more consumers can take advantage of those benefits,” Ishbia said in a news release. “The Phoenix Suns and Mercury have a diverse, passionate and engaged fan base in sports that will allow us to make strong connections between mortgage brokers and consumers.”

In addition to the naming rights, Mortgage Matchup is now the official mortgage partner of the Phoenix Suns and Mercury, as well as the G League Valley Suns.
The venue, located 2nd Street and Jefferson, was built to replace the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum and opened in 1992 as America West Arena. US Airways then owned the naming rights from 2006 until 2015, when it was renamed Talking Stick Resort Arena.
After that deal expired in 2020, Footprint secured the naming rights in 2021 in what was supposed to be a long-term partnership with the Suns. That partnership ended earlier this year, and the arena was temporarily renamed PHX Arena until Thursday’s announcement.
“I am excited to welcome Mortgage Matchup as a partner in our downtown’s incredible arena community,” Mayor Kate Gallego said. “With this announcement, Phoenix strengthens its standing as a premier destination for major events and world-class sports and entertainment.”

The WNBA Finals tip off later this week as the Mercury take on the Las Vegas Aces. The first two games will be played in Las Vegas before heading to Phoenix for game 3.
Meanwhile, the Suns will play their final preseason game in downtown Phoenix on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The team’s regular season home opener is set for Wednesday, Oct. 22, when the Suns take on the Sacramento Kings.
