The start of the college basketball season is still 173 days away, but the Nevada men’s and women’s basketball teams are working on their 2025-26 non-conference schedules.
Thus far, neither team has locked in many non-league games.
Nevada Sports Net filed a public-records request for the contracts signed by both programs for the 2025-26 season. It did not net many results.
The Wolf Pack men have scheduled two games and locked into a multi-team event where it will play in the Palm Springs Invitational. Nevada also has a scheduled home game against Southern Illinois and road game with Santa Clara.
Nevada will host Southern Illinois on Nov. 12 as part of a single-game setup in which the Wolf Pack will pay the Salukis $65,000. The teams last played in Dec. 2017 as part of the Las Vegas Classic. They also played back-to-back seasons in 2007-08 and 2008-09 as part of an ESPN BracketBuster agreement. Southern Illinois went 14-18 out of the Missouri Valley Conference last season and ranked 190th in KenPom. One of the best players in Nevada history, Jordan Caroline, began his career at Southern Illinois.
The Wolf Pack also will play at Santa Clara on Nov. 15 as a return game from the Broncos playing in Reno last season. These programs have been semi-regular foes, playing 10 times since 2000. Nevada won last year’s game 85-59. Santa Clara went 21-13 last season out of the West Coast Conference with a KenPom of 59.
Additionally, Nevada will play in the Palm Springs Invitational, which will include two neutral-site games on Nov. 27 and 28 with an additional home game held between Nov. 18-21. Opponents for those contests are undetermined. Some of the teams listed for this year’s Acrisure Series, which includes the Palm Springs Invitational, are Iowa, Colorado, Minnesota, USF, Tulsa, Northern Iowa, Stanford, Washington, Santa Clara, San Jose State, San Diego, Loyola Chicago, Grand Canyon, Saint Louis, Cal Baptist and Pepperdine. Nevada also will play in the Palm Springs Holiday Classic in 2026 with two neutral-site games plus a home game that season.
While not included in the public-records contracts submitted by Nevada, the Wolf Pack owes a road game to Washington State as part of a home-and-home series. The Cougars went 19-15 out of the WCC last season with a KenPom of 120. That included a 68-57 win at Nevada, which was the first game between these programs since December 2000.
With the Mountain West shifting to a 20-game conference schedule last season, the Wolf Pack can play up to 11 non-league games since it is playing in an MTE event. Assuming the Washington State game is still played, Nevada has six of its 11 non-league slots accounted for with three solidified opponents. Per a recent rule change, the college basketball season will start Nov. 3 rather than Nov. 11 in 2025.
Per the public-records response, the Nevada women’s basketball team has yet to signed a contract for the 2025-26 non-conference season.
