The Detroit Pistons have added forward Feron Hunt on a training camp contract, according to a report from Spotrac’s Keith Smith.

The 26-year-old SMU product has spent most of his career in the G League, first catching on with the Texas Legends (Mavericks affiliate) in 2021 after going undrafted.

In March 2022, the New Orleans native signed a two-way contract with the New York Knicks that led to his only NBA experience. Hunt saw nine minutes of play over the final two games of that season, missing the two shots he attempted and registered a rebound, assist and steal.

He was acquired late in 2022 by the Birmingham Squadron — the Pelicans’ G League team — and briefly played abroad in Montenegro before returning to the U.S. to join the Cleveland Charge (Cavaliers’ G League) for the 2024-25 season.

Last season, the 6-foot-8 forward played 32 regular season games, averaging 18.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game.

It’s safe to say Hunt won’t be challenging for a roster spot with the Pistons and will likely be waived when his deal is finished with the opportunity at catching on with the Motor City Cruise.

Detroit’s president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon surely has some familiarity with Hunt as he brought him in on a 10-day hardship contract and to the G League team when he was the New Orleans Pelicans’ general manager.
