Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James trolled his fans on Tuesday when he teased a big announcement that ended up as just a quirky advertisement.
Lakers coach JJ Redick was asked his thoughts about the chaos that LeBron’s pending decision caused as fans speculated, before learning that he was running an ad, that he was potentially retiring. Fans were quickly upset to learn he was just messing with people.
We still don’t know how and when LeBron will actually announce his retirement, and while the teases are childish, Redick was shocked that anyone believed for a second that this was how the four-time NBA Finals MVP would make such a declaration.
He said “you guys are idiots” when asked about the specific incident.
ESPN’s Dave McMenamim shared a video taken of Rui Hachimura saying that he texted LeBron beforehand to confirm and that his teammates “loves” to do this type of stuff.
Austin Reaves added he got a few calls from people asking him to explain what was happening and that he is glad his teammate is returning.
