Giannis Antetokounmpo’s growing frustration with the Milwaukee Bucks has been no secret since the offseason began. Now, things appear to be escalating fast. During the recent Bucks media day, the two-time MVP subtly hinted that his loyalty lies with winning, not necessarily with Milwaukee. He said he wants to be in a place that gives him the best chance to capture another championship, and those words reignited a storm of speculation about his future.
Adding to the drama, one of the league’s most trusted insiders has added major fuel to the fire.
What Is the Latest on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Future?
ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charania dropped a bombshell report a day ago. He revealed that Antetokounmpo was exploring a potential change of teams, and the New York Knicks emerged as his preferred destination.
However, Charania wasn’t done yet. In a recent segment on ESPN, he revealed another major update. Antetokounmpo, along with his agent, is now exploring even more teams, particularly franchises that can both accommodate his play style and put him in a prime position to win another title.
“This whole Giannis Antetokounmpo element to the NBA season, that window is no longer just subjected to the Knicks, and that’s going to include other NBA teams.”
“I expect it to go beyond just the Knicks. Giannis Antetokounmpo and his agent, Alex Saratsis, have been figuring out which teams. If this does get to a point of a trade request, which team could find its way, which multiple teams could find their way,” said Charania during the segment.
While Charania didn’t name specific teams, the implication was clear: Antetokounmpo keeps his options wide open.
If Charania’s report turns out to be accurate, it would be a hilarious irony of what the Bucks’ front office claimed just a few months ago. During a Summer League matchup between the Bucks and the Los Angeles Clippers in July, Bucks president Peter Feigin confidently stated that “Giannis loves playing in Milwaukee” and that his relationship with the organization was “in a good place.”
“You know, for us, we’re in a good spot, Giannis is in a good spot. He’s enjoying the summer. We’re looking forward to next season,” said Feigin during the game.
How Did Giannis Antetokounmpo Perform Last Season?
Antetokounmpo has done everything in his power to keep Milwaukee competitive. In the 2024-2025 regular season, he averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists across 67 games. He also led the Bucks to a 48-34 record and a playoff berth.
Yet, despite his performance, the Bucks’ postseason campaign was cut short. The Indiana Pacers eliminated them in the first round, even though Antetokounmpo scored an incredible 33.0 points per game during the series.
As the regular season inches closer, all eyes will be on the “Greek Freak,” not just for what he does on the court, but for what decision he might make.
