Johnny Davis’ pro basketball career hasn’t gone like he wanted it to.
But now he has the chance to revive his NBA hopes in his home state.
The Wisconsin Herd, the G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, made a trade with the Westchester Knicks for the 23-year-old former University of Wisconsin star in exchange for the returning player rights to Diego Bernard and Jalen Lewis.
Davis could find a more lucrative contract in a foreign league, but the Herd hold his G League rights.
The 6-foot-4 Davis was a coveted recruit from La Crosse Central High School who committed to the Badgers in the 2020 class along with his twin brother Jordan.
Johnny Davis had a breakout season as a sophomore at UW in the 2021-22 season, averaging 19.7 points per game and earning Big Ten player of the year.
He declared for the draft and was chosen at No. 10 by the Washington Wizards, one of the highest picks ever by a state native.
Davis, however, was a disappointment as a lottery pick. He played in only 112 games over three seasons with the Wizards, averaging 3.5 points per game. He did set a career high with 20 points against the Bucks on April 4, 2023.
Washington traded Davis to the Memphis Grizzlies last season, then the guard was waived. He signed with the Westchester Knicks in March.
