San Antonio Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama is entering his third NBA season in 2025, primed for what should be another All-Star caliber campaign.

Wembanyama entered the league as one of the most physically unique prospects in NBA history, joining the Spurs as their No. 1 overall pick in 2023. In his first two NBA seasons, the San Antonio organization listed the Frenchman at 7-foot-3 and 209 pounds on its official roster.

However, the Spurs made a big change to Wembanyama’s numbers on Thursday, and they’re now listing him at 7-foot-5 and 235 pounds heading into the 2025 season, meaning the 21-year-old center grew about two inches and gained close to 30 pounds this offseason.

Wembanyama claimed the NBA’s Rookie of the Year trophy in 2023-24, averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.2 steals and a league-leading 3.6 blocks per game. He appeared in 46 games last season, averaging 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals and another league-leading 3.8 blocks per contest.

Wembanyama’s 2024 season was cut short when he was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. He spent this past offseason strengthening his mind and body, famously spending 10 days at a spiritual retreat in China and training with NBA legends like Hakeem Olajuwon and Kevin Garnett.

“I can assure you nobody has trained like I did this summer,” Wembanyama said, via Michael C. Wright of ESPN. “I think I’ve maxed out what I could do in one summer. Now, I need to play basketball.”

Wembanyama played 16 minutes in the Spurs’ preseason opener against the Guangzhou Loong-Lions, shooting 3-for-3 from the field, 1-for-1 from behind the 3-point arc and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line, totaling nine points. He also recorded a team-high 10 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks.

On Wednesday, Wembanyama played 22 minutes in the Spurs’ preseason win over the Miami Heat, notching 10 points, four rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

San Antonio will face off against the Utah Jazz in another preseason matchup on Friday evening.
