It is undoubtedly one of the decisions that the Portland Trail Blazers They must take the word for it now. After a summer in which no white smoke has appeared, the talks appear to be close for Shaedon Sharpe to commit long-term to the Oregon team; and according to Jake Fischer, the guard’s strong preseason performance is finally convincing the franchise.

That’s right. Just a few days ago we were talking about the strong possibility that the team would sign Sharpe to a contract that would move around four years and 100 million dollars, there is now a widespread belief among insiders that this deal—or even a better one—will be signed before the deadline.

Far from treating the warm-up games as training camps to get into peak form, Sharpe has taken the reins of the team to first score 22 points against the Golden State Warriors and then 17 against the Sacramento Kings, establishing himself as a key player on the team coached by Chauncey Billups, who has nothing but praise for him.

“He looked very controlled throughout. He got to the spots he wanted to get to, and I think he was good defensively. He came in and grabbed some really good rebounds for us. I think Shaedon can be an exceptional rebounder with his physique. He had a good game,” the head coach told Sean Highkin of Rose Garden Report.

While nothing can be taken for granted until it’s in writing, Sharpe may have finally convinced management by demonstrating—if it were necessary—that if injuries spare him, he can be a key player for the team for a long time, and we mustn’t forget he’s only 22 years old. Along those lines, Bobby Marks also affirms the understanding between the parties, emphasizing that a deal as high as $30 million per year could even be reached.

10 days for final resolution

That’s the deadline. NBA rules stipulate that a rookie-level extension must be finalized before the start of the regular season, so Portland has until October 20 to get everything resolved. Should the deal fall apart, Sharpe would enter the summer of 2026 as a restricted free agent.
