Neemias Queta is expected to be the Boston Celtics‘ starting big man for the upcoming season, following the offseason departures of Kristaps Porzingis, Luke Kornet and Al Horford. Queta, 26, is primarily a rim-runner, using his 7-foot size to protect the rim and deter shot attempts on defense and provide vertical spacing on the offensive side of the floor.

However, during Queta’s time with Portugal at the 2025 FIBA EuroBasket tournament, we saw flashes of a jump shot emerging, including from the 3-point line. And as you would expect, that has led to some sections of the fan base calling for Queta to add some perimeter attempts to his game in the upcoming season, despite his already concerning limitations around the rim, where he ranked in the 55th percentile among all NBA centers for field-goal percentage within four feet of the cup.

During the latest episode of the “How ‘Bout Them Celtics?” podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance discussed Queta’s potential shot profile for the upcoming season and whether he should consider incorporating some 3s into his game. The duo explores the value of his being capable of spacing the floor, and the downside to his working on that adjustment throughout the season.
