The Los Angeles Clippers are entering the season with an entirely refreshed lineup. This offseason, the team made several major additions. They brought in veteran point guard Chris Paul from the San Antonio Spurs. Then they signed Bradley Beal and Brook Lopez, and also landed John Collins in a three-team trade.
Among the returning players, Ivica Zubac is looking forward to the new season with a team full of experienced veterans. However, Zubac remains focused on improving his midrange game.
Recently, Zubac was asked in an interview which teammate he would swap lives with. Zubac made sure that he didn’t want to swap with Kawhi Leonard.
“Being Kawhi this past summer was not easy. So I’m not picking Kawhi,” Zubac said.
Zubac’s words carried a subtle reference to Leonard’s ongoing endorsement deal controversy. Leonard has reportedly been under NBA investigation for his partnership with a tree plantation company, which allegedly violated the league’s salary cap rules. Reports claim that the Clippers organization may have used a sponsorship deal with Leonard as a workaround to gain a financial advantage.

The Clippers are heading into their second year under defensive coach Jeff Van Gundy. Zubac recently shared his thoughts on the Clippers’ defense. The Clippers star expressed optimism about the team’s potential improvement.
“I think we can be better than last year. … Some rules that we do, normally teams do it differently—all the teams do it the same way, we do it differently. … I think it’s gonna be even better this year,” Zubac said.
Zubac is entering his eighth season with the Clippers after spending his first three NBA seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is coming off the best statistical year of his career, averaging 16.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.
