The Brooklyn Nets will have to make some tough decisions to make ahead of the 2025-26 NBA regular season, including who will be on the roster. Brooklyn already made some tough moves by waiving guard Dariq Whitehead and forward Drew Timme on Monday and it looks like they’re not done.
The Nets announced on Monday, following the release of Whitehead and Timme, that they signed guard Terry Roberts and forward Tre Scott. After the signings of Roberts and Scott, Brooklyn is back at 21 players, though it seems like Roberts and Scott could be destined for the G League.
Roberts, 25, spent the 2024-25 season with the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, and he averaged 6.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 39.9% from the field. With how many guards the Nets have, including Egor Demin, Nolan Traore, and Ben Saraf, just to name a few, it appears that Roberts won’t have a place in head coach Jordi Fernandez’s rotation.
Scott, 28, split last season between Long Island and the Osceola Magic, the G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, as he continues to bide his time to play in the NBA. Across 47 games, Scott averaged 9.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 41.4% from the floor and 28.1% from deep.
As with Roberts, it seems to be the case that Scott is destined to remain in the G League due to the amount of players that Brooklyn has within the projected rotation as of this writing. There is still the possibility that the Nets are trying to make sure that they meet the salary floor before the season-opener and if that is the case, Roberts and Scott could help Brooklyn achieve that goal.
