The Dallas Mavericks lucked out and won the 2025 NBA Draft lottery which netted them Cooper Flagg.
Cooper Flagg looks every bit of a No. 1 overall pick. He’s a tremendous two-way talent who already looks NBA-ready.
Flagg’s impressive playmaking has been on display during the NBA preseason. The Dallas Mavericks even started him at point guard in their most recent outing.
Flagg finished with 11 points and 7 assists in a Mavericks preseason victory over the Utah Jazz.

With Kyrie Irving not expected to be back until January, the Mavericks could look to get creative with Flagg.
He will have more on-ball responsibilities with Irving out, as the rookie can create for himself and others.
Brian Windhorst talked about how Flagg has looked with the ball in his hands thus far. He said Flagg is better than LeBron James was during his rookie season.
“You know what? He’s better with the ball than LeBron was in his first year in the league.
“Now, LeBron was a way more talented offensive player, but LeBron played point guard as a rookie, and it was frankly, it was a disaster.
“He was leading the league in turnovers, even he would admit this.”
Kendrick Perkins thinks Cooper Flagg should be a point guard for the Dallas Mavericks, ‘he’s the white version of LeBron James’
Flagg’s two-man game with Anthony Davis already looks like it’s going to give NBA teams nightmares.
Kendrick Perkins thinks Flagg should play point guard with the Mavericks because of his ability to do multiple things. He even compared the 18-year-old to LeBron James.
“I said it on draft night, he’s the white version of LeBron James, when you talk about his IQ for the game, he has that.
“When you talk about his ability to be able to create, defend, do all those things, Cooper Flagg has that package.”
The Mavericks have themselves a generational talent. They can use Flagg in multiple different ways this season.
There was great hype surrounding Flagg as he entered the league and so far he’s been living up to all of it.
