Ben Simmons

It seemed as though Ben Simmons could be in play for the Sacramento Kings as they needed to add point guard depth, but in the end they ended up signing the top free agent point guard in Russell Westbrook.

This now leaves Ben Simmons as the top available point guard on the market, and he has been commonly linked to the New York Knicks. Instead, there is another team that will look to sign him instead.

The team that will go forward with signing Ben Simmons ahead of the 2025 season getting underway is the Detroit Pistons.

Ben Simmons Signing With the Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are coming off having an impressive 2025 season where they made leaps in their improvement and made the NBA Playoffs. While they were eliminated by the New York Knicks, it still was an unexpected season that they can look to continue to build on for the future.

When it comes to the Pistons, though, they need more depth on their team if they want to make it further than they did last season. Behind Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey, they don’t exactly have great guard depth. Caris LeVert and Marcus Sasser aren’t fully standout talents for Detroit to rely on, especially after the departure of Dennis Schroder in their sign-and-trade deal earlier in the offseason with the Sacramento Kings.

With the Pistons still needing guard depth, Ben Simmons becomes the best available option for them to consider.

By signing Ben Simmons, they wouldn’t be getting an elite scorer, but would at least be getting someone that can provide serviceable scoring off the bench to pair with his elite defensive skills. Simmons, in addition, would also pair well with Cunningham as Ivey has struggled to stay healthy. If needed, Simmons could fill the starting role that Ivey typically occupies.

For Ben Simmons, signing with a contending team like the Pistons would end up being ideal for him in the long run as well.

Ben Simmons Stats

Ben Simmons has been in the NBA for seven seasons. During that span he has averaged 13.1 points, 7.2 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game. Simmons hasn’t exactly played as great as he did early on in his career after dealing with his back injury, but just last season averaged 5.0 points, 5.6 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game.

Between his time on the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, and Los Angeles Clippers, he has ample experience around the NBA, and would be able to apply that towards helping the Pistons’ roster while also providing help in the on-court play.
