The Chicago Bulls will be without their starting point guard for Wednesday’s regular-season opener against the Detroit Pistons.

On Monday, the Bulls announced that Coby White is still dealing with a right calf strain, causing him to miss at least the next two weeks of NBA action.

“Medical Update: Coby White has resumed on-court basketball activities and continues to make progress in his ramp up phase for a right calf strain,” the team wrote on X. “White will be reevaluated in two weeks.”

This news comes just two days after White left the door open on his status for Wednesday’s matchup against the Pistons.

White missed all of the Bulls’ preseason action after suffering a calf strain during an offseason workout in August. Saturday marked his first practice with the team since the start of training camp.

“We’ll see. We’ll see,” White told reporters on Saturday. “I’m still ramping up. Like I said, this is the first time I went up and down [the court] in a month and a half… We’ll see. It’s in the works. It’s definitely being talked about — me playing in the season opener.”

White was one of the Bulls’ most consistently solid player last season, averaging a career-high 20.4 points per game through 74 appearances. The former North Carolina star shot 45.3% from the field, 37.0% from behind the 3-point arc and 90.2% from the free-throw line in his sixth NBA season.

If White is cleared for his return to action in two weeks, he could be available for a matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers on Nov. 4.
