See the latest injury update for Rockets forward Dorian Finney-Smith with info on his status for Tuesday’s season opener vs. the Thunder.

There was a lot of promise in the Houston Rockets’ offseason, and that included the signing of Dorian Finney-Smith to a four-year contract. But his debut for the Rockets will have to wait. Their key bench piece has been ruled out of Tuesday’s season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder with an ankle injury.

Finney-Smith, 32, averaged 8.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game last season for the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers while shooting 41% from three-point range. When healthy, he’ll bring some catch-and-shoot spacing to a Rockets team light on shooting without compromising their size. They love defensive depth, which he brings plenty of to head coach Ime Udoka’s squad. It’s unclear when he will be ready to make his debut.

DFS’s absence likely means more minutes for Tari Eason, another high-level defender. How the Rockets choose to make up the other minutes is unclear. It’s possible they go bigger with more Clint Capela minutes or give Josh Okogie some run. They could even choose to deploy Jeff Green.
