INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WMC) – Memphian and recent NBA Draft pick Kam Jones was arrested for reckless driving and resisting arrest after a police chase.
Indiana State Police say Jones was spotted in a black Cadillac driving over 90 miles per hour in a 50 MPH zone on I-70 around 10 a.m. Monday.
The Cadillac was seen rapidly changing lanes and following too close to other vehicles, per the ISP report.
A trooper made an attempt to pull the driver over, which led to a chase.
When stopped, Jones told the trooper he did not know he was speeding and that he was running late for practice with the Pacers.
Eventually, Jones was taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor reckless driving and felony resisting arrest.
Jones, 23, grew up in Memphis and was a star for Evangelical Christian School, leading them to the state semifinals on two occasions.
He was recently drafted in the second round of the NBA Draft out of Marquette by the Indiana Pacers, where he has yet to make his NBA debut.
The Pacers released this statement on the arrest:
We are aware of the situation involving Kam Jones. We are in the process of gathering additional information and will not have any further comment on the matter at this time.
Jones was given a $1,000 bond. He’s due back in court on October 23.
