Former Marquette men’s basketball star Kam Jones, a rookie with the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, was arrested on Oct. 20 after a chase with Indiana State Police in Indianapolis.
Jones, 23, was the 38th pick in the NBA draft by the Pacers in June after four seasons at MU. He is the No. 2 all-time leading scorer for the Golden Eagles, and was a second-team All-American last season.
According to the Indiana State Police, a trooper tried to pull Jones over on Interstate 65 in the morning on Oct. 20. Jones allegedly did not pull over, and led the Indiana State Police on a brief chase that ended in downtown Indianapolis.
According to the affidavit for probable cause filed by the state trooper, he paced Jones going 90 mph on Interstate 70 and attempted a traffic stop. Jones did not pull over, merged on to I-65 and then stopped on an exit ramp.
The trooper said Jones complied with all commands before he was placed under arrest. Jones told the trooper that he was late for practice for the Pacers and didn’t know he was speeding.
Jones was held and released from the Marion County jail on preliminary charges of reckless driving and resisting law enforcement. According to jail records, Jones will have a court hearing on Oct. 23.
The 6-foot-4 guard had not played in the preseason with the Pacers because of a back injury.
