Hawks Preview
Southeast Division rivals will square off on Friday night, when the Atlanta Hawks travel to the Kia Center to take on the Orlando Magic. For other NBA action see our NBA Predictions. The Hawks (0-1) have assembled a talented supporting cast around Trae Young and are looking to snap a two-year postseason drought. On Wednesday, Atlanta was outscored by 17 points during the third quarter of a 138-118 home loss versus Toronto.
Trae Young (11-13 FT) and Jalen Johnson (8-10 FT) led five Atlanta players in double figures with 22 points apiece. Kristaps Porzingis made an impressive regular season debut for the Hawks with 20 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Onyeka Okongwu added 18 points and six boards in 30 minutes off the bench.
Magic Preview
The Orlando Magic ranked second in the NBA in defensive efficiency and are expected to contend in a watered down Eastern Conference. The Magic (1-0) parted with four first round draft picks in exchange as part of a deal to acquire Desmond Bane in an attempt to provide some much needed three-point shooting. On Wednesday, Orlando converted 29 of 35 free-throw attempts during a 125-121 home victory versus Miami.
Former number one overall draft pick Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner led Orlando with 24 points each on a combined 16-for-34 from the field. Desmond Bane nailed half of his six long distance attempts and finished with 23 points. Tristan da Silva added 16 points in 18 minutes off the Magic bench.
Hawks vs Magic Pick
Orlando C Moritz Wagner (knee) did not suit up for the season opener and his status for this contest is uncertain. The Hawks were blasted in the season opener and will put forth a much better defensive effort. The Magic are an elite defensive team. Take the under. Final Score Prediction, Orlando Magic win 114-109.
