Boy, what a season, huh? Wait, you’re telling me we’re only two games into the 2025-26 campaign for the Oklahoma City Thunder? Could’ve fooled anybody who went through dangerous stress levels.
The Thunder have a 2-0 start, but not the way most imagine. They survived a 125-124 2OT win over the Houston Rockets on Opening Night. A couple of days later, the Thunder had a 141-135 2OT win over the Indiana Pacers in a 2025 NBA Finals rematch.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has cosplayed as Superman. With Jalen Williams and others out, he’s put up monster scoring numbers to carry the Thunder to tight wins. He scored a career-high 55 points in their win over the Pacers that controversially involved a 23-of-26 night in free throws.
As the Thunder start their NBA championship defense, they made some league history. They are the first team in NBA history have start their regular season with two 2OT wins. A 48-minute game extended into 58 on both nights. Gilgeous-Alexander huffed and puffed to gather himself through a grueling stretch.
Expect the Thunder to receive the best punches from the opposition. The rest of the league has circled their matchups against them to see how they measure up against the team on the NBA throne. That said, they’ll need some reinforcements as their injury report continues to grow.
