ABILENE, Texas — The HSU Cowboys and Cowgirls are fixing their eyes on basketball season with less than two weeks until games tip off.

The Cowboys were selected to win the American Southwest Conference (ASC), receiving seven first-place votes from their peers.

HSU earned a top-20 ranking from D3Hoops following their stellar 2024-2025 campaign.

The Cowboys finished last season with a 20-10 record, including a perfect 8-0 in ASC play.

The undefeated conference mark is the first time any ASC team has finished without a loss in the nearly 30 years of the conference.

HSU tips off their season November 7 as they host Texas Lutheran.

Meanwhile, the Cowgirls were picked to finish second in the ASC after a 19-win season last year.

HSU received two first-place votes after a 4-4 record in conference play in 2024-2025.

The Cowgirls were picked to finish behind Mary Hardin-Baylor in the ASC this season.

HSU is set to host Texas Lutheran on November 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
