Anthony Edwards hilarously channels Steph Curry with long-distance warmup shot originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

“Kobe” usually is the name called out by basketball players of all levels when taking a shot, but Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards paid homage to a different all-time great.

None other than Warriors icon Steph Curry.

While warming up for Minnesota’s 128-110 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday at Crypto.com Arena, Edwards made an incredible half-court shot, and subsequently yelled out, “Wardell! Wardell! Wardell!” An homage to Steph Curry, with his birth name, Wardell Stephen Curry II.

Edwards and Curry shared a heartfelt moment after Team USA’s Gold Medal Game win over France in the 2024 Paris Olympics, with the Timberwolves star playfully joking the two-time NBA MVP waited until the most crucial games to show up.

“Ant said I just showed up three days ago,” Curry explained with a laugh. After only 29 total points in Team USA’s first four games of the Olympics, he bounced back by scoring 36 and 24, respectively, in the semifinal and final contests.

“My boy just got to Paris about three days ago,” Edwards echoed. “But we’re so glad he got here.”

While Curry and Edwards are fierce competitors on the court, the mutual respect between the two is heartwarming to say the least.
