2024-25 season series: Spurs won 2-0

Toronto lost 139-129 to the Dallas Mavericks Sunday, failing to cover as a 1-point favorite with the Over (231.5) cashing. F Scottie Barnes posted 33 points and 11 rebounds, while F Brandon Ingram added 22 points, but the duo couldn’t make up for Toronto’s poor defensive showing. The Raptors lost control in the third quarter, when they were outscored 39-25 and gave up a 13-0 run.

San Antonio defeated the Brooklyn Nets 118-107 Sunday, covering as a 10.5-point favorite with the Under (227.5) hitting. F Victor Wembanyama continued his phenomenal start to the season, recording 31 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks to outduel G Cam Thomas and his 40-point effort. The Spurs held the Nets to just 39.1% shooting from the field, marking the second time this season San Antonio has limited an opponent to under 40%.

Raptors at Spurs picks and predictionsPrediction

Spurs 121, Raptors 112

PASS.

San Antonio is the better team, and Toronto simply has no way to contend with Wembanyama. The Spurs should have no problem winning as -225 favorites. However, no team favored this heavily is worth the risk of betting on.

PASS and bet the spread and/or O/U instead.

BET SPURS -5.5 (-110).

San Antonio has looked impressive despite a consistently lengthy injury report, whereas Toronto has disappointed in back-to-back games. The Raptors have no good defensive matchup for Wemby, and he’ll likely take over this game with another MVP-level performance.

The Raptors are a scrappy team and always a threat to keep games close. However, with their defense struggling this much, I don’t see a realistic path for Toronto to contend with Wemby and the Spurs.

LEAN OVER 232.5 (-110).

Toronto averages 127.6 points per game while allowing 126.3. The Raptors have been so poor defensively that their opponents scoring at least 115 points has become almost a given. On the other end, Toronto has no trouble putting the ball in the basket. Expect San Antonio to exploit the Raptors’ defense while Toronto finds only marginal success offensively.

Also, the Over is 3-0 for the Raptors this season and hit in their last meeting.

This is a lean because Wembanyama is good enough defensively to force a team to change its entire offensive game plan, so it is possible that the Spurs just absolutely stifle Toronto’s offense.
