Pacers reportedly waiving ex-Warriors center James Wiseman to sign Mac McClung originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
The Indiana Pacers are planning to waive former Warriors No. 2 overall draft pick James Wiseman to sign guard Mac McClung, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Monday, citing sources.
The anticipated move by the Pacers comes as the team tries to manage several injuries at the guard position. It would be McClung’s first standard NBA contract after playing multiple seasons in the NBA G-League. The three-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest winner also played for the Warriors on an Exhibit 9 contract during the 2022 NBA preseason before he was released in October of that year.

Wiseman, drafted by the Warriors in 2020, played in just one game for the Pacers this season. He tallied four points, four rebounds and a block in 20 minutes in Indiana’s 128-103 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday.
Last season, Wiseman suffered a torn Achilles tendon playing for the Pacers in their 2024-25 season opener. Later that season, he was traded to the Toronto Raptors before being waived in February. He re-signed with the Pacers in July after Indiana’s appearance in the 2025 NBA Finals.
The Warriors traded James Wiseman to the Detroit Pistions during the 2022-23 season in a four-team deal to acquire Gary Payton II from the Portland Trail Blazers.
For the remainder of that season in Detroit, Wiseman played 24 games (22 starts) and averaged 12.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game on 53.1-percent shooting from the field in 25.2 minutes per game.

In his first full season in Detroit, Wiseman averaged 7.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game in 63 games (six starts) last season for the Pistons.
Wiseman, selected second overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, was the Warrior’s highest overall draft selection since they drafted Joe Smith with the No. 1 overall pick in 1995.
In his two seasons played with Golden State, he averaged 9.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game in 60 games played.
