The Orlando Magic (1-2) visit the Philadelphia 76ers (2-0) tonight at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia in a matchup that pits Orlando’s rising young core against a 76ers squad that has gotten off to a strong start.

Orlando comes into tonight’s matchup after a shaky weekend as its upgraded core of Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Desmond Bane work things out.

After leading most of the night Friday, the Magic fell late to the Atlanta Hawks, 111–107, despite 27 from Wagner and 15 each from Bane and Tristan da Silva.

One day later, the offense sputtered in a 110–98 loss to Chicago: Orlando shot just 39.1% from the field and 3-for-24 (12.5%) from three, with Banchero posting 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Those back-to-back results underline the current profile — physical defense and rebounding, but volatile shooting that can crater the offense when the threes don’t fall. The Magic acquired Bane to improve their perimeter shooting, but he only attempted two three-point shots against Chicago and was 1-of-7 from downtown in the loss to Atlanta.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, opened with a statement 117–116 win against the Boston Celtics behind Tyrese Maxey’s 40 and rookie VJ Edgecombe’s eye-popping 34 in his NBA debut. They then rallied past Charlotte 125–121 behind 28 from Maxey and a clutch 24 from Quentin Grimes off the bench.

The Sixers have looked dangerous late in games and are getting timely contributions from their wings, with Joel Embiid adding 20 in the Hornets win.

But tonight they’ll be without Embiid, who has been ruled out for left knee injury management.

Expect Orlando to test the Embiid-less paint with Banchero and Wendell Carter Jr., while Philly leans on tempo, drive-and-kick, and late-clock shot-making.

Predictions

With Embiid out, the Magic’s depth and recent momentum give them the slight edge. But Philadelphia’s toughness at home and Maxey’s hot start suggest it will be competitive.

Prediction: Magic 115, 76ers 105
