SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) – The Sacramento Kings formally introduced their new head coach, Doug Christie, in a news conference on Friday morning at Golden 1 Center.

“I accept the challenge, the opportunity, and I am truly grateful to be sitting here right now,” said Christie.

Doug Christie began last season as an assistant coach, then took over as the team’s interim head coach in December after Mike Brown was fired. In 51 games, he went 27-24.

The Kings ended their season in the Play-In Tournament for the second year in a row.

“I watched him connect with this group of players that led to some success on the court. It was very obvious to me,” said new Kings general manager Scott Perry. “During this turbulent time, he posted a winning record and improved the team’s offensive efficiency.”

Prior to serving as interim head coach, Doug Christie was an assistant coach with Sacramento for three seasons.

He also played for the Kings from 2000-2005, part of a 15-year NBA career. He collected All-Defensive First Team honors in 2002-03 and Second Team honors three times (2000-01, 2001-02, 2003-04.

Christie helped Sacramento reach the Western Conference Finals in 2002, losing in Game 7 to the Los Angeles Lakers.
