The Memphis Grizzlies (2-1) head to San Francisco tonight to take on the Golden State Warriors (2-1) at the Chase Center.

The Grizzlies have had an up-and-down start to the season. They opened with a solid 128-122 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Then they were blown out 146-114 by the Miami Heat. They bounced back with a 128-103 win over the depleted Indiana Pacers (who were without Tyrese Haliburton).

Now they face a Warriors squad coming off an embarrassing loss of their own — they fell 139-119 to the Portland Trail Blazers. But Golden State showed grit and scoring power in its first two wins: 119-109 against the Los Angeles Lakers on opening night and a tough 137-131 overtime win over the Denver Nuggets.

On the Memphis side, rookie Cedric Coward has been fearless, averaging 19.0 points over his first three games, including 27 in the win over Indiana. The 11th overall pick also went 6-of-6 from three in that outing.

The Grizzlies continue their load management strategy, with their starters averaging around 25 minutes a game, leveraging a 13-man rotation.

For the Warriors, Stephen Curry hasn’t lost a step, averaging 33.3 points per game this season. Jimmy Butler is contributing 22.0 points per game. And Jonathan Kuminga has impressed early, averaging 15.7 points per game with great efficiency — shooting 55.2 % from the field and 50.0 % from downtown.

Both teams rank among the NBA’s top 10 in scoring, averaging around 123 points per game.

Predictions

Expect the Warriors to come out on top with their defensive edge and experience in high-leverage, late-game situations. The Grizzlies have a lot of firepower, but their defense is a step below that of Golden State.

Prediction: Warriors 127, Grizzlies 120
