The Boston Celtics won their first game of the 2025-26 NBA season in a 122-90road blowout of the New Orleans Pelicans, but don’t let that trick you into thinking that the reason behind the losses in the first three games of the Celtics season has been solved.

That issue, a serious rebounding deficiency that is baked into the structure of the players on the team’s roster, may have improved with Boston winning the battle of the boards vs. the Pels to the tune of 54-35 overall. But take into account that two of the team’s three best big men sat out the game in Kevon Looney and Zion WIlliamson, with the latter having been responsible for roughly a fourth of New Orleans boards in the prior two games played this season.
