HASKELL COUNTY, Okla. (WBTV) – A former Duke basketball star player and national champion was arrested this past week, according to a report from the Associated Press.
The AP said Kyle Singler — who played at Duke from 2007-2011 — was arrested in Oklahoma on Thursday, Oct. 23, after he allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the head and shoved her to the ground.
The report added that the alleged incident happened in front of the couple’s young child, and that a responding Haskell County deputy saw finger outlines on the woman’s face and marks on her arms.
Singler was reportedly uncooperative with authorities and appeared to have been under the influence of drugs.
Haskell County court records showed Singler was charged with domestic abuse/assault and battery in the presence of a child. He was given a $6,000 bond and was scheduled to be in court on Dec. 2.
Now 37 years old, the former basketball star had a stellar career at Duke. He was named to the All-ACC team in each of his four years with the Blue Devils, won the national title in 2010, and was named the most outstanding player in that 2010 NCAA Tournament.
After his standout collegiate career, Singler was drafted with the 33rd pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, but actually started his professional career over in Spain. He returned to the U.S. for the 2012-2013 NBA season, and played in all 82 games for the Detroit Pistons.
Singler spent his first two and a half NBA seasons with the Pistons before he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in February 2015. He played the final 138 games of his career with the Thunder, with the last coming in 2018.
