For the first time in more than 10 seasons, the Georgetown College men’s basketball team lost at home to a non-conference opponent last Friday night.

Indiana University Southeast sprang the upset of No. 3 Georgetown College, 69-67, in the season opener at newly renovated Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Friday.

Nathaniel Hoffman gave the Grenadiers the lead for good on a 3-pointer with just over three minutes remaining.

Georgetown led by 11 late in the first half but struggled from the field after a hot start, shooting 35 percent on the evening.

Isaiah Mason started the game with a solo run of 7-0 for GC, whose defense did not surrender the first points until just under the 16-minute mark.

After the Grenadiers’ first substantial run of the evening, Rashad Bishop hit one of two foul shots to give the Tigers a 31-29 lead heading into the locker room.

Georgetown started the second half on an 11-2 run, fueled by six points in just over a minute from Scotty Browning.

The Grenadiers’ offense found its way back into the game, though and took their first lead on a free throw by Isaac Strunk with 7:36 left.

Chance Dillingham and Hoffman exchanged go-ahead threes prior to a flurry of free throws from both sides. Georgetown took its last lead, 61-60, on Bishop’s layup at the 3:45 mark.

Georgetown was a frosty 5-for-27 (18.5%) from 3-point range.
