The Houston Rockets (3-2) host the Dallas Mavericks (2-4) tonight at the Toyota Center.

The Rockets are on a roll, winning three straight after dropping their first two games — both close contests. During their streak, they’ve taken advantage of matchups against two of the league’s weakest defenses, the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors, scoring nearly 140 points in each.

Their most recent victory came against the Boston Celtics, 128-101, a game in which Houston dominated despite Boston’s strong defensive pedigree. The Celtics, however, were on the second night of a back-to-back and rested starters in the second half.

The generous schedule continued tonight for Houston. They face a Dallas team that struggles to score — and is without its lead scorer. The Mavericks are averaging just 108.2 points per game — the second-lowest mark in the NBA — and will be without Anthony Davis, who’s sidelined with a left calf strain. Davis had been averaging 20.8 points per game but continues to battle durability issues. Center Dereck Lively II is also out, further thinning Dallas’s frontcourt.

No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg remains inconsistent in his rookie campaign. He scored 16 points in Saturday’s loss to the Detroit Pistons but shot just 21.4% from the field, continuing his early-season shooting struggles.

Prediction

With Houston’s depth, home-court advantage, and Dallas’s mounting injuries, the Rockets should control this one from start to finish.

Prediction: Rockets 125, Mavericks 104
