The 2016 NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers went down as one of the best series in league history, and two of the game’s biggest stars had the chance to reminisce on their experience.
During Tuesday’s episode of the Mind the Game podcast (39:25 mark), hosts LeBron James and Steve Nash sat down with Stephen Curry and relived some key moments as James led the Cavs to their first NBA championship by outlasting Curry’s Warriors in seven games.
James compared some of the Warriors’ offensive strategies to the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls of the 1990s, explaining how simple actions can put pressure on an opposing defense.
“It’s controlled chaos, but those guys know exactly what’s going on,” James said. “We’re just trying to get the chain to move on defense, but when you have threats on the floor at all times, it can disorient a defense, which, you would show the first clip of me having a f–k up.”
“We’ve got a few of them!” Nash responded as the trio bursted out into laughter.
While fans fondly look back on the 2016 Finals for its epic moments throughout the series, the highlights understandably conjured some bad memories for Curry. However, he was able to find some solace in analyzing some of James’ mistakes.
“This is the happiest I’ve ever been watching this game, by the way,” Curry said with a laugh.
