Following a pair of losses on the road last week, the Golden State Warriors returned to San Francisco’s Chase Center on Tuesday for a contest against the Phoenix Suns.
The Warriors wasted no time landing the first punch against the Suns, jumping on Phoenix out of the gate. In the first quarter, the Warriors outscored the Suns 33-19. Quinten Post led the way for the Warriors in the first quarter with nine points.
In the second quarter, the Warriors didn’t show any signs of slowing down, cruising to a 19-point lead over the Suns in the first half.
Despite trailing by nearly 20 points to start the second half, the Suns still had life. Devin Booker tallied 17 points in the third quarter to help cut into Golden State’s advantage and get the Suns back into the game. With no answer for Booker in the third quarter, the Warriors’ lead faded to just nine points to start the fourth quarter.
In the final frame, Moses Moody helped close the Suns out with an impressive fourth quarter. Moody tallied 10 points with a pair of made 3-pointers off the bench. Behind Moody, Brandin Podziemski and Steph Curry, the Warriors were able to shut the door on the Suns’ late comeback attempt and secure the win, 118-107.
Steph Curry led the way for the Warriors with 28 points on 9-of-23 shooting from the field with five made 3-pointers. Curry added four rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal in 33 minutes.
Moody led Golden State’s bench with 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Moody was joined by Podziemski and Buddy Hield as members of the Warriors’ second unit to score in double figures off the bench. Golden State’s bench tallied 63 points to Phoenix’s 19 points off the bench.
Jimmy Butler was initially listed as questionable for Tuesday’s game with lower back soreness. Despite starting the game, Butler exited the contest in the second quarter and was ruled out for the remainder of the game with lower back soreness.
Following their win, the Warriors will head to Sacramento for the second leg of a back-to-back on Wednesday night against the Kings.
