While the NBA is undergoing a ton of heat revolving the world of sports betting, the Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups scandals were first kicked off because of the Malik Beasley scandal. Now that this has all been cleared up, and Beasley is able to rejoin the NBA, there’s a perfect landing spot.
The Detroit Pistons.
Here’s why Detroit makes too much sense for Malik Beasley, and why they need to make this happen.
This is a prediction, not a report.

Detroit is currently 6-2 and sitting near the top of the Eastern Conference standings. Guard Cade Cunningham is leading the team with 24.5 points per game, 9.6 assists per game, and 36.1 minutes per game through eight games. Big man Jalen Duren is averaging 17.9 points and 11.4 rebounds per game.
Other notable contributors include forward Ausar Thompson, rookie wings and a supporting cast that are improving.
But what Detroit lacks at the moment is a steady 3-point threat and veteran wing shooter who can relieve pressure on Cunningham, stretch defenses, and offer proven scoring punch off the bench or starting line.
Why Malik Beasley Fits
Beasley averaged 16.3 points per game in the 2024-25 season with Detroit while playing in all 82 games.
He is known for his shooting ability — especially from beyond the arc — and his willingness to move off the ball, get in rhythm, and make shots. According to an article from Heavy, Beasley has publicly said that once cleared to return to the NBA he wants to join Detroit.
From the team’s perspective, adding Beasley brings three immediate benefits:
Detroit’s 3-point shooting is adequate but could improve. With Beasley on the roster, defenses would have to respect his shot, which in turn opens driving lanes for Cunningham and Duren.
As a shooter who has shown he can reliably produce 15-18 points per game, Beasley would give Detroit a secondary scoring option and veteran presence in what is still a young core. Beasley reportedly wants to return to Detroit, which means the fit is there. That mutual interest matters.
Beasley’s path hasn’t been perfectly smooth. He was involved in a federal-level investigation regarding gambling and betting allegations, though as of August 2025 his attorneys said he is no longer a target of the probe.
Because of that episode his market may be somewhat depressed, which could be a buying opportunity for Detroit. From the team’s side, the risk is modest: The Pistons can structure a deal that protects them (shorter term, modest salary) and see if Beasley returns to form. Meanwhile the upside is significant.
Final Thoughts
The Pistons are progressing nicely, but to leap from promising young squad to consistent contender they need incremental upgrades. Adding Malik Beasley — a proven shooter who has already shown he fits the Detroit offense and environment — would check a major box.
He would relieve scoring burden on Cunningham, stretch defenses, and give the roster a veteran edge. Given his desire to return to Detroit and the current favorable market conditions, now is the ideal time for the Pistons to strike.
