The Golden State Warriors (5–4) visit the Denver Nuggets (5–2) tonight in a Western Conference matchup in NBA Cup play.

Golden State comes in shorthanded. Stephen Curry is out, and Jimmy Butler is a game-time decision. Al Horford and Moses Moody are also listed as questionable.

Curry and Butler both missed the Warriors’ most recent game — a 121–116 loss to the Sacramento Kings — where Golden State relied heavily on its younger core. Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, and Will Richard combined for 82 points. But the bench contributed just 20, and the defense struggled as Sacramento shot nearly 50% from the field.

Denver, meanwhile, has won two straight and five of its last six. Its only losses this season are a two-point defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers and an overtime loss to Golden State. This time, however, the Nuggets are facing a depleted Warriors roster with a clear advantage in depth and continuity.

Nikola Jokic has shifted into a higher scoring role in recent games after beginning the season more as a playmaker. Now, he’s simply doing it all. Jokic posted 33 points, 15 rebounds, and 16 assists in a 122–112 win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday.

He enters tonight averaging 24.1 points, 13.4 rebounds, and 12.0 assists while shooting 61.3% from the field — a triple-double across the board. Now in his tenth season, he continues to be one of the league’s most dominant and efficient forces.

Prediction

Without Curry, Golden State simply lacks the offensive creation to keep pace. If Butler also sits, the gap widens further. Denver should control this one comfortably at home.

Prediction: Nuggets 130, Warriors 115
