In a game where Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun faced frequent double teams and very physical defense, Amen Thompson took advantage in Houston’s decisive 124-109 victory (box score) over the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Rockets (5-2) have now won five straight games, representing the NBA’s longest active winning streak of the 2025-26 season.
Thompson finished with a game-high 28 points on 13-of-26 shooting (50.0%), and he also added 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and only 2 turnovers. As a team, the Rockets went +22 in his 39 minutes played.
The attention drawn by Durant and Sengun also helped Houston’s role players get open 3-point shots. The Rockets entered ranked first in the NBA in 3-point accuracy (42.5%), and they were even better on a 13-of-30 night in Memphis (43.3%).

Defensively, strong work from the likes of Thompson, Josh Okogie, Jabari Smith Jr., and Tari Eason helped force Grizzlies stars Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. into rough nights.
Morant had 17 points, 8 assists, and 6 turnovers while shooting 6-of-19 (31.6%), while Jackson was held to 9 points and 6 rebounds on 2-of-6 shooting (33.3%).
After being No. 19 in defense a week ago, Houston now ranks No. 6 among the NBA’s 30 teams. The high-powered Rockets continue to rank No. 1 on offense.
Next up is a high-profile Texas showdown, as Houston reaches the midpoint of its three-game road trip with Friday’s matchup at San Antonio. The Spurs (5-2) and Rockets are tied for the third-best record in the Western Conference, and that game will be the opener of Emirates NBA Cup 2025 play for both teams.
