While rumors of his impending NBA doom were likely greatly exaggerated given his young age and where he is in his career, Jordan Walsh played like a man who might be out of the league with a few more bad outings in recent games. The Texan wing had fallen out of Boston’s early season rotation due to an injury sustained in preseason play, and took full advantage when the opportunity for real minutes opened up for Walsh this week.

His game against the Orlando Magic on Sunday (Nov. 9) evening in particular stood out, the Arkansas alum playing well enough to be on the floor in crunch time to hit a game-winning dagger trey. Asked postgame bout how Walsh has been playing in recent contests, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla pointed to the young forward’s mindset.

“You have to have that type of sense of urgency, especially for a young player,” said Mazzula via CLNS Media. It’s hard to teach that. It’s hard to simulate that. It’s hard to do that.”

“He’s turned it on, and he’s had that sense of urgency, as if he’s playing like his basketball life is on the line, and he should play that way” added the Celtics coach. “And it’s a credit to him.”

“One of the reasons why I trusted and went with him was because of his work ethic behind the scenes. His body language and work ethic never changed even when he wasn’t playing.”
